PEACH FESTIVAL
thaaat's right. The other day we were in a small part of West Tisbury and saw, you best believe it, a Peach Festival! I thought I would pass out it was so cool. Just a bunch of tables set up with a bunch of people eating peaches!!! People- move to Martha's Vineyard! I'm tellin' ya it's great.
MICHELLE
is the name of a woman that we really hope to take on as a new investigator! We haven't met her but have heard about her a lot. She has two girls and they are quite a power team, that family! So we've heard at least. They have been spending time here as a family every year and their dad just joined them on the island! We'd love to meet him, as well! So our goal for this week is to meet, teach, and baptize the entire Obama family! I'll let you know how it goes!
SOCIAL
aspects seem to have left me as soon as I became a missionary. I am horribley awkward and that's really alright. I'll be normal again someday... right? One thing that has become particularly challenging to do is get people's phone numbers. Sometimes we really genuinely want to see the person again, or we have something we'd like to invite them to, or they even say that they'd love to get together. And no joke about 80% of the time we give them our number rather than get theirs. So then we are left with a whole lot of potential and not a lot of follow through. Needless to say nobody ever calls us. This last week there was a day that everywhere we went we saw someone we knew at a distance. A man and his wife walking down the dock back to their boat with their groceries. A regular from the bus we ride that we've been trying to bump into again... walking outside on the other side of the street as the bus rolled by. We were walking to our apartment when an old man in a jeep yelled from the street "Hi sisters!!! See you next summer!!" We have NO clue who he was, still. It kills me because there are things I'd love to tell these people! Like, "hey, did you know that Christ can help you be free of ALL your mistakes?" or "The gospel will change your life!" or simply "God loves you! Did you know that? Well, he does. And I do too." But we don't have their number so we can't say anything at all.
On Thursday we hopped a bus back home and got on right behind a little girl. She and her mom sat a few rows behind us but the little girl leaned over the seats and kept talking to me. "Do you want a tour?" she asked. "Sure!" "Ok. Want... to sit next to me?" "Sure!" So we picked up our stuff and she had her mom move down a few seats. There we were, total strangers, sitting on the back row of the bus with a little 5 year old girl telling us all the best places to rent bikes, buy hot dogs, or go to the beach. I fell in love with this little girl and we waved and said goodbye as they got off the bus. I handed her mom with a little card that I had sloppily written "We have a lot of friends with kids and we do fun things all the time! You're welcome to join!!" and put our number down. CREEEPY. She will never call, that's for sure. Why couldn't I have just said, "Pam, your daughter is hilarious! She reminds me of my niece. Hey, we have some friends here with kids her age and we get together all the time. Would you like to join us sometime? Can we exchange numbers?" Because I'm dumb, that's why.
The next day we got on the same bus and guess who was there again!? Soleil and her mom! Ohhh I was so happy :) she of course offered us another tour and this time her mom picked an area big enough for all of us to sit. On the way to the next town we got a text from our next appointment saying that they were working late. So Pam invited us to come on a little Art Stroll where there were snacks and local artists displaying their work. It was so fun, Soleil kept us all laughing, and Pam and I got to talk a lot more. We got her number and parted ways. I can't wait to talk to her again! We met one of her friends and he asked us a lot of gospel questions on the bus. He was really cool... he just up front and asked them! And not just to us, to another guy on the bus next to us. It was a big conversation for about 20 minutes about pride and happiness and gratitude. Awesome guy. Can't wait to talk to him, again, too! Because guess what? We got his email address.
See, even when we are weird God helps us out. He knows exactly what we need. Most importantly he knows exactly what he needs us to do for him, so if we allow him to direct us and work us in his ways, we will be WORLDS happier. He knows what we need.
RAISING KIDS
Were you dragged up or brought up? Think about that. I think I was dragged up because I was too stubborn to be brought. Haha, my feet were dug deep in the dirt as my parents pulled me along. I really liked when I heard someone say this. Dragged up or brought up.
OTHER NEAT SAYINGS
that I heard this week,
"Pray and then GO"
"With faith, nothing is impossible. And with prayer, all things are possible."
AND A FUNNY ONE
"No way, Craig is your brother?! I did your father's insurance!" on the bus. It's a small, small island.
love you all and hope that you're making good out of bad and better out of best. Smile and carry on and do all that you can. Just do that. Do all that you can and know that it is enough!
