Lady Lovely

February 15, 2013

Aloooooha Familia y Amigos!

It's only week 3 and already I'm already wondering if people are still reading this blog. It fels like I've been gone for a year already. Writing to you brings me back to the real world and makes me feel sane. So hopefully you're still intrigued enough that you lay in bed all night long wondering "when will she write again?!" and check your phones constantly for updates on the link that you've inevitably set up because this blog is the coolest thing and you just can't bare a single day without looking at it.

CHANGE OF LOCATION
I'm not where I really am
First things first, I'm not at the Provo MTC anymore. One of the first days here my companion and I walked outside and I was remarkably surprised to see that we are actually in Alaska. The mountains are SO close and SO very huge. I've never lived in Utah before and it took a few days to notice just how close the mountains are, and they're not goin' anywhere. It blows my mind. Looking out above the buildings on campus I see the snow covered mountains and I can't imagine that we are anywhere else but Alaska. The past 5 days it has snowed constantly and at every corner I'm surprised to NOT see a Polar Bear. I'm confident that once I entered the front gates the whole campus telaported and now I'm living in a top secret Government Outpost hidden away in the Alaskan mountains. So, Aloha from Alaska. Good luck finding me.

LADY LOVELY
what it takes to be a girl
It would appear that I'm more of a tomboy than I ever realized. I thought it would be easy to wear skirts and cross my ankles and laugh gently and speak softly but BOY am I in for a challenge. I'm not a lady. I prefer the floor to a seat. I prefer jeans to a skirt. I prefer showering 4-5 times a week rather than 7. I prefer shaving never. I prefer laughing to my hearts content, holding back nothing, and almost always pointing at whatever I'm laughing about. I prefer being outside hiking or walking to sitting inside reading. I prefer holding the door for people to having every door opened for me.  Holy cow, santa vaca, I am not a lady. It's fun, though, trying every day to be more feminine. I feel like I'm playing a character. Today my character decided to wear tights and boots (yeah, boots. Cool stylish ones like all the girls have) and I even straightened my bangs (yeah, bangs. Like a woman).

SCRIPTURE HUMOR
it happens more than it should
Jokes are becoming more and more focused on scriptural references. I often write down a verse and hand it to people when they're deep in study. They think it's something uplifting or pertaining to their studies, but it's not. It's a funny scripture. Por ejemplo:
2 Nefi 18:1 "Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen, concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz". Yup. I just named all of my children. And they shall be known as (first name) Maher-shalal-hash-baz (last name).
Alma 18:14 One day, oh wait... ever day the Elder's struggle to speak up in class. It get's ridiculous when only the Sisters are talking so sometimes we sit patiently and awkwardly while waiting for one of them to answer. This happened the other night and my companion leans over and says "Alma 18:14" and I looked it up to find "And the king answered him not for the space of an hour". Hahahaha!

Maybe these are funnier to me because they're the best jokes I've heard in a few weeks....

FLUENT
spanish phrases I've made up (with my district) that don't really mean what they do in english
"Lo clave!" = nailed it
"Chistosame" = you're kidding me!
and if you need more emphasis you can say
"Tiene que CHISTOSAME!" = you've gotta be kidding me
"Una tierra pequena" = it's a small world
and my ultimate favorite:
"Enchada los dados" = Roll of the dice. For example "What's gonna be for dinner" "Who knows, some days it's delicious, some days it's crap, ya know it's like Enchada los dados" OR "Who's gonna go first?" "Ya never know! It's just Enchada los dados!"

IF NOTHING ELSE, READ THIS
because nothing I say will ever be this important
It's girl scout cookie season. Did any of you know this? Well I didn't, and I just found out. Furthermore, I don't have a doorstep for cute piggy-tailed girls to twist my arm (haha, just kidding, I say yes before they even talk)  to buy cookies from. I haven't had any girl scout cookies in a few years.... and I just want a box of Samoa's so darn bad. IF anyone has already purchased any, and IF you are willing to share, will you please throw a stamp on those bad boys and send them my way? I don't ask for a lot. But this is something very close to my heart. My heart is located directly NE of my stomach, so you see, it really IS close to my heart.

Gotta go, but just so you know, LIFE IS A MISSION! And it's so good! Of course it's hard, and there are challenges, and we judge and get down on ourselves more than anyone else ever could, but would you have it any other way? I wouldn't. I gladly take every mistake and trial in my life because it got me here. And here is good. And here is God.

SMILE always,

Love,
Hermana Hileman
